Case Study: How I fixed my crooked teeth with no money by using an affordable dental payment plan

Having bad teeth was something I struggled with for years. I wasn’t fully aware of how much it truly affected me until years later after my teeth were fixed.

Having bad teeth was something I struggled with for years. I wasn’t fully aware of how much it truly affected me until years later after my teeth were fixed.

Everytime I laughed I automatically covered my face. Everytime I smiled it was with a closed mouth. As my teeth became progressively worse over the years, it made me more and more self conscious which started to affect my day to day life.

Whether it was meeting new people, going for a job interview, doing public speaking during University classes, or simply chatting to lifelong friends; you name it, I was uncomfortable.

It reached a point where it became such an issue for me that I felt uneasy about most social situations. But I was a poor uni student at the time, so I didn’t think that fixing the issue was even an option. After all, I was on a student allowance from the government, how on earth could I afford braces, or Invisalign?

Everyone knows that braces cost an arm and a leg. I was at a loss about what to do, thinking I’d have to wait until I graduated and got a good paying job, but how bad might my teeth be by then?

Everytime I laughed I automatically covered my face. Everytime I smiled it was with a closed mouth. As my teeth became progressively worse over the years, it made me more and more self conscious which started to affect my day to day life.

I finally visited an orthodontist

My girlfriend at the time could see how much my crooked teeth were affecting me and insisted that before I ruled treatment out due to cost, I should see an orthodontist. After some quick Googling, I found a highly rated orthodontist practice in my local area and booked an appointment.

I was extremely anxious going in as I wasn’t sure what I was in for, but my initial fears were completely unnecessary. The Orthodontist at the practice was extremely kind, understood my situation, and took me through a few potential treatment plans that would fix my teeth and leave me with the perfect smile that I’d always longed for.

As I suspected, the orthodontist explained to me that the options were either braces or Invisalign. Invisalign were a set of clear, almost invisible retainers that gently corrected your teeth overtime. Unlike braces, the best part about Invisalign was that people couldn’t even tell you were wearing them.

Being in my early twenties, a uni student, and having developed a complex about my teeth already, I wasn’t overly keen on having braces, so I opted to find out more about the treatment plan for Invisalign.

The Proposed Treatment Plan for Invisalign

The proposed Invisalign treatment would take 24 months to correct my teeth by using a set of 44 retainers that I had to change every 2 weeks. The overall cost would be $8000. My bubble instantly burst. “Well that’s that done” I thought to myself. “There’s no way in a million years I could scrounge up half that amount of money, let along $8K”.

The orthodontist could see the deflated look in my eyes, and that’s when he introduced me to DentiCare Payment Plans, which literally changed my life, and my teeth, forever.

The Invisalign Payment Plan Cost

The Orthodontist explained to me that by using a DentiCare Braces Payment plan, I could pay my Invisalign treatment off over the next 2 years, interest free. All I needed to do was make an initial 20% deposit, which worked out to be $1600. I would have happily saved for that amount, but luckily I already had a small amount put aside and then borrowed the remaining $500 off my parents.

This left me with a remaining payment plan amount of $6400. It was still an eye watering amount for a student, but as the orthodontist mentioned earlier, I could pay this off via weekly instalments which would be deducted from my Direct Debit account.

And the cost of these weekly payments? $61 p/w. $61 a week for a life changing smile?! I didn’t even have to think twice about it. I signed up with DentiCare through the practice and started my treatment for Invisalign straight away.

Using invisalign for two years to fix my teeth

The practice I signed up for provided me with a 3D scan of my mouth, showing me how my teeth would slowly change with each set of Invisalign retainers. Seeing the 3D model show my teeth gradually improve is still one of the best feelings I’ve ever had, particularly for the last few sets which showed me the perfect smile I would have at the end of my treatment.

Upon receiving my first set of retainers, my orthodontist informed me that I should start to see a visual improvement in as little as 6 weeks. Wearing the retainers took a little time to get used to. I had to wear them at all times, except for when you’d take them out for eating. Before long, I could start to see the subtle changes, and with every set of retainers I slowly grew in confidence. Fast forward 2 years and 44 sets of retainers later, and I now have the perfect smile I’d always dreamed of.

For me, fixing my crooked teeth using Invisalign and paying them off via a DentiCare Payment Plan was hands down the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m a mere shadow of the person I was with crooked teeth. I’m extremely confident in any situation, love meeting new people, and laugh out loud with a broad smile from ear to ear. Looking back, my only regret is that I wish I had started my treatment earlier.
